Ideas for things to practice at home
- Looking for an app to aid communication or social skills? Check these free apps out! Story Creator allows you to write your own story on your iPad and use pictures you've taken or allows you to draw them in! Doodle Buddy allows you to draw on any picture you take, the possibilities for communication and creativity are endless! Let Me Talk is an easy to use communication app.
- Use broken crayons practice coloring without a fisted grasp! Using a broken/small crayon requires a grasp that uses their fingers because it won't fit in their fist. This is great for their finger muscles and fine motor skills.
- Read, read, read! No matter what you read, reading aloud to your child is great! Get them to look at the book as you read and follow the text with your finger as you say each word. This makes all the difference even if it's just 15 minutes before they go to bed.
-Practice the monthly sight words I have sent home in communication folders by pointing the words out in favorite books, getting creative and making tasks involving them, or having kids trace the words as you say each letter, then the word.
